African wax indigo hack

I am following day lovely Jacqueline from Wax and wraps  she has this wonderful sewing box check it out it is amazing. Anyway she suggested that we make amazing African prints clothes to go see our woman king or the black panther 2. . I really like this idea!

So I look in my stash and I found this lovely red brown yellow and blue fabric.

The trouble was I had a  metre of it and it’s not wide fabric either. I did decide to do a top from Indigo I thought I had enough fabric and I also want to elongate the the bodice a little bit. But in the end I didn’t have enough fabric it was a crop top and it was a disaster….

(Don’t be fooled, these are maternity trousers and start under my boobs :))

I did ask a lovely online sewing community see if they have any of this fabric leftover… it originally came form dovetailed London, lovely shop by the way! But nothing. I had some suggestions… and I had an idea myself. I make a peplum like thing, all pieces together form the offcuts. Lucky the print is very busy. And I have some lovely vintage lace. But lace was too white was way too contrasting. So I quickly dyed in in tea, as per suggestion of my mum’s mate.

The top is finished and I think it great. But look inside facings are from different African wax…

And I thought that this label form Lemon patch was just perfect to summarised this make!

It’s not perfect but is super cute and bright. I think I might wear it this week to see Black panther and Florence and the machine!

Sadly woman king is out of the cinema already. I didn’t find time to go see it.
